Midwest Park
>> PROJECT – MIDWEST PARK <<:// INTRO
A few years back, a good friend of mine told me I should look into selling assets online.
I started thinking about it for quite a while, this was around the time that skins were really popular in shooters. Skins were a great idea, however, it was very easy to have your work blend into the rest of the submissions.
After a few more nights I had it: what if I made soccer stadiums?
This would cover a lot of basics, I could build in a modular fashion, some assets within the stadium could be reused (pitch, goals, stands, etc).
Plus, sketch fab has a nice 3D model viewer.
Here we go baby!
:// MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
The initial idea was to make fun stadiums. Fortunately MLS ha a great deal of unique stadiums. Sure, there are a few that are actually NFL stadiums, but the rest would be unique soccer-specific stadiums.
The idea would be to make them brand-less in order to let anyone purchasing the model to add their own branding once they brought the assets into their own project.
I did add a small request in the project notes, I requested people actually send me links games my stadium would be included in.
As of this writing, no one has emailed me shit. It’s not all doom and gloom though, at $5.00 a piece, this bad boy has actually made me over $150 USD. The other idea is to beat out those peeps who list their stadiums at $198.00 and above.
:// RIP AND TEAR
So it actually turns out that my stadium has made the rounds and is being offered for sale by other “studios”.
Basically, some loser bought mine, repackaged it then uploaded it as their own.
That’s the lamest shit I have ever seen.
Funny, I’d rather throw my ass off a bridge than steal someone’s work.
The good thing is that those people putting up my stadium as theirs is proof that human trash exists.
There’s always a bigger fish…
