Killzone
DAY 001
>> KILLZONE CAMPAIGN PART 001 <<It was a bit over a year ago when a buddy of mine told me “dude, is there a way for you to stream without streaming?”.
This got me thinking. Well, actually, I was like “da fuq are you talking about?”.
Then dude said “yeah, is there a way for you to stream offline so I can watch the upload afterwards since I can’t catch the stream when it goes live?”.
What my buddy was actually talking about was an offline upload of a previous recorded session.
You see, I have streamed a bit in the past under a horror channel. Don’t get me wrong, I love that shit. But it does come with plenty of challenges.
The first one is knowing what to play. You want to play something that is entertaining to watch and have it be something that is easily recognizable as interesting. As I was streaming on a horror channel, I had the idea to stream (mostly) horror-only games. This is not a bad idea, as there are many classics across multiple systems that are excellent choices.
However, there is one major issue with only streaming horror: all horror games are usually set in pitch black environments.
This makes it hard for someone streaming to fully take in the atmosphere and look of the game as they are watching, Hell, not everyone is a dungeon dweller like me.
The second thing is that there are many other games which I do enjoy, but they do not fit a horror channel.
for example, I love me some RPGs. Although I have never been rally good at them, but these 40+ hour games might not be a good choice for a horror stream.
That is where this site comes in.
You see, I’ve had’ this site since 2009-ish, mostly focused on portfolio pieces to gain employment. Fortunately that bared fruit. So what now? Why not actually make it my site and host everything that I enjoy creating / doing.
The main question was, what the fuck am I going to play first?
:// MY PEOPLE. SONS AND DAUGHETRS OF HELGHAN…
A few years back I launched a Killzone fan site (helghan.net). Killzone is actually my second favorite game series just behind Resident Evil. The challenge in hosting that site is that by the time I launched, all online titles were dead (story of my life). and my online searches for fan servers lead nowhere. So after 1 year, I reluctantly nuked the site.
Then guess what?
Someone brought Killzone 1 (and 2) back online.
Again, story of my life…
In the past couple of years I have really gotten into fan server. I mean really, REALLY gotten into fan servers.
So I set up Killzone 1 on my phat PS2 (as this was the one game that needed a bit more setup as I did not want to open my mint copy of Killzone 1 (see below):
So I decided to load an old backup which I still had on my server (ripped by me of course, from an older copy which I lost).
I have been wanting to play through the series again, and this finally provided me with an excuse to do so.
Plus, I really ant to jump onto that fan server and play regularly, however, I SUCK at the original Killzone (multiplayer). I kicked major ass in Killzone 2.
But Killzone 1?
Fuck me.
These sessions also give me an excuse to write, as I have been wanting to write steadily for a while now.
:// NEXT STEPS ??
Just incase you haven’t guessed by now, I will be writing log entries for every session.
This nerdy shit is for me.
These nerdy streams are for my friends.
Love you guys.
Enjoy!
DAY 002
>> KILLZONE CAMPAIGN PART 002 <<There were a couple of changes for day two.
So I scaled the render back from 1920 x 1200 to 1920 x 1080. So, the 1200 scale looked great, especially in firefights. The issue is that resolution does not hold
the rectangular aspect of 16:9 as that resolution actually clock in at 16:10.
Most (if not all) displays actually hold the 16:9 ratio.
That is why I scaled this one back as it translates better when viewing on your preferred device.
The second was that I added a camera behind me.
I really enjoy this one as I think it actually gives the stream a more unique touch.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather be sitting here in the dark with my horrendous appearance. However, I find streams with voice-over only a bit dry.
:// That PlayStation Controller
The game is actually starting to pick up. I have been doing a bit of bot maches in order to get used to the pace of Killzone.
The goal is to be sharp in order to play on the online multiplayer.
I am still a ways from getting there.
The side-to-side and looking up an down are still getting me. I’m going to muscle through it and continue to keep all aiming and movement settings maxed out.
i think I did have some flashes of being decent on this run.
I would love to kick major ass online. Hopefully this helps me get there.
