Deftones Live

:// INTRO

I never thought I would ever see Deftones live.

Ever.

They usually play big festivals like Lallapalooza or Rock Am Ring. Most of the time they play small venues around the Sacramento area.

But once I saw they were coming to my neck of the woods, I jumped on those tickets so fast, I almost spilled my drink.

:// MY OWN SUMMER

The first time I saw them on MTV was on a weekend all-metal show that was hosted by Korn.

Appropriately, the video was My Own Summer. That video was just too fucking cool. It was so perfect that it actually got me thinking for a second if Deftones were the real deal or if it was just studio “magic”.

Once I delved into their back catalogue I realized, they were the real deal.

:// SHOVE IT

I have been to my fare share of shows in my lifetime, but this was one band that I constantly had on rotation in the background (on YouTube). It’s pretty hard to find good pro-shot videos for them, but providence brought me to their Chicago Lollapalooza video just days before tickets went on sale.

It was the easiest $300 bucks I have even spent.

:// CHANGE, IN THE HOUSE OF FLIES

There is one thing when seeing Deftones live though. Evey band I have seen clearly has each member on their own “layer”. The best example I can give is you can clearly hear each instrument and the vocals.

I have been to shows where the band starts on the same “level”, then get adjusted on the spot in order to get that crisp audio.

Deftones doesn’t do that.

The entire band is on the same “level” which makes their sound come at you as a single wave.

This sounds fucking rad.

I think the reason why it works is due to Chino’s voice. For the uninitiated, dude’s screams and melodies are pretty visceral / haunting.

This shit was so loud, I swear my heart skipped a beat.

Damn, I can’t wait for them to come back to town.
