The making of VERTEX

>> PROJECT – VERTEX <<

:// INTRO

I swear this is my last post mentioning The Drake.

Anyways, that beautiful Polish man introduced me to Podcasts. I had heard about podcast before, I did have an iPod you know.

Working with him (usually in the same room), my man would break out the “casts” and work through anything while listening to them.

There was one show that really kicked it off for me though.

SHOCK WAVES, originally called KILLER POV, this was a weekly horror show which was just fun to listen to. I listened to every episode they had available (under every incarnation of the show). The format was simple, all 4 hosts would kick it off by talking about what they had recently seen or purchased (all horror related of course).

They would then transition into the main topic which would usually involve a guest or two.

One day while getting my horror fix, I looked over and saw my microphone.

Then I felt it:

Ah shit, here we go.

:// THE AUDACITY TO DO IT

I was very familiar with Audacity, having used it in college and on a few October Games’ shows as well.

The idea was originally to “cast” in Spanish, as to my knowledge there are not that many nerdy shows if at all. The name for the show then was super cringe: El TEAMROBERTO Podcast.

I had set a schedule and was outputting pretty frequently. I had sent the show to everyone I knew (that would listen), especially my buddies in Mexico.

No one fucking listened to it.

:// THE KING’S ENGLISH

I had put it on ice for a bit, then I realized, why don’t I re-do it in English. Except this time there would be a few “guidelines” to help me out.

First, I wouldn’t give a shit if anyone listed at all. If you do this for the numbers then it is real easy to get discouraged. Do it for fun.

Second, there is a “main theme” for the show: It’s shit that I like.

It could venture into gaming, movies, production, etc.

Third, do it frequently but most importantly when YOU are ready.

The main victory in the reboot was that (I do have to say so myself), I found my voice. Being nerdy is an English speaking thing mostly. Shit is just easier to say in the King’s English when it comes to geeking out.

I’m just saying.

:// BLAST OFF

Being the dope that I am, I would love to make this available in video and audio format. Fuck, you guys ever see the Shiro Show?

Masterclass.

But then I reel myself back and remind myself that the point of this ongoing project is to work with audio.

Feel free to give it a listen, you could do worse.

Trust me, I have 😀
